This event was planned with the aim of directly conveying the appeal and latest technology of pediatric cardiac surgery to young cardiovascular surgeons throughout Japan, and nurturing the next generation of cardiac surgeons. It was organized by the Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Winter School Executive Committee (Chairman: Ichiro Tanaka, Chief of the Department of Cardiac Surgery at the National Center for Child Health and Development), and EBM Corporation provided the venue and provided operational support.

About the Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Winter School

The Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery Winter School is aimed at young doctors and related medical professionals involved in the field of pediatric cardiac surgery, providing an opportunity for them to intensively learn specialized knowledge and skills.
At this school, students can gain in-depth knowledge of the latest knowledge and techniques in pediatric cardiac surgery through lectures, case studies, and discussions by experts working at the forefront of their field both in Japan and abroad.
Additionally, practical hands-on sessions will provide instruction aimed at improving the precision of procedures.

In addition, the school aims to train young medical professionals who will lead the future of pediatric cardiovascular surgery and to support the development of medical practice and research, and also provides a valuable opportunity for participants to expand their networks through interactions with other participants and with supervising physicians.

Event Reports and Interviews

program

In the program, under the guidance of a cardiac surgeon, wet lab training using a ram heart was conducted, and participants were trained in pediatric cardiac surgery techniques, such as reviewing cardiac anatomy and repairing ventricular septal defects (VSDs). Using actual organs allowed participants to gain realistic surgical experience that could not be obtained through models or classroom learning alone, and also led to the acquisition of advanced skills such as suturing and operating an artificial heart-lung machine (auxiliary circulation). Prior to the wet lab, dry lab training using the latest simulators and lectures by specialists were also conducted, providing a comprehensive curriculum in which participants could learn step by step from the basics to advanced applications.
