Laparoscopic right hemicolectomy training simulator "COLOMASTER" product press conference
Watch the product unveiling and press conference for the simulator ``COLOMASTER'' designed for training in laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, which is the result of joint development between IBM Corporation and the National Cancer Center. I would like to introduce you.
BM Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ota-ku, Tokyo; Research Institute: Fukushima City, Fukushima Prefecture; Representative: Eiko Park) performs laparoscopic right hemicolectomy, one of the important endoscopic surgical procedures in the field of colorectal surgery. The technical training simulator COLOMASTER was released as a new product on Friday, January 12, 2024.
This new product is the result of a prototype developed through joint research with the National Cancer Center (Chairman: Hitoshi Nakagama, Chuo-ku, Tokyo).
Surgeons are trained using animals, cadavers, and simulators. However, there are ethical and cost-related barriers to animal and body donation, and it is difficult to say that the environment is suitable. Furthermore, there was no simulator that could train surgeons through all steps of a surgical procedure using the forceps and devices that they normally use in surgery.
Therefore, our company worked with the Department of Colorectal Surgery, National Cancer Center Hospital East to develop an anatomically accurate simulator that can reproduce a surgical procedure from start to finish (location: NEXT Medical Device Development Center). By using this simulator, you can understand the anatomical structures that are important in surgery, develop the visual field, and learn dissection techniques. This will create a high-quality, low-cost training environment anywhere in Japan and overseas, and will further contribute to improving the skills of surgeons.
